England: Nazi demo at Luton costs the state a million pounds

The Breivik-akin Neonazi party of Britain, the English Defense League (EDL) organized yesterday a hatred demonstration against Muslims in Luton. They only gathered some three thousand Nazis but the state deployed 1500 police agents with all the equipment in prevention of clashes.

They could not avoid that some stuff (bottles, smoke bombs) was thrown and had to arrest two people (unclear of which side) but the astonishing figure is that the police deployment demo cost even more than police protection for the whole European Central Bank clique just a few days ago in Barcelona. Then the deployment was much larger (8000 agents) but the costs (even if scandalous and very much criticized) were lower: €900,000.

This deployment at Luton cost the British budget a million pounds, the equivalent of €1.2 million.

Aren't British cops a tad too expensive? Wouldn't be cheaper to just arm the communities for self defense? I would gladly take part on anti-Nazi raids for no salary as long as I'm authorized to kill - just saying.
